It is exciting and challenging to decorate a small porch. The typical houses nowadays include a rather small porch. Whatever reason those owners have or those contractors have, you can still decorate your small porch to your own delight, without even accidentally trying to make it smaller. With a little imagination, a couple of amenities and some storage spaces, you can make your tiny porch to a much bigger one. Now, all that you have to do is to start with the following:-Change your old door knobs or door knockers to a new one.-Mix and match your color and your style to a much consistent look.-Change your hinge plates and door knobs if they give you that tarnished look, or they are basically worn out. If you can enhance its look with a bit of cleaning, you can also do that to save money. Now, let us move to decorating details. If you have an old doorbell, why not try to change it with something that lights up at night. That way, people will be able to see it even if the lights are out at night. It will also give your old doorbell a new life. It will also help you save up on your electricity bill, as you would not need to open up another light at night. You can also try to change your old ceiling fixtures, to suit your current decoration. If the ceiling of your porch is a bit high, then you can always go for those hanging lights. If you want to just use your old one, then I suggest that you start cleaning them up, by simply wiping them. That will make it emit a much brighter light. Now, when you choose colors for your porch, it is best that you try to make a dramatic impact by simply painting a part of your porch area a contrasting color as your main door or vice versa. That way, it will stand out and it will look as if the area is actually bigger than it really is. After that, try to pick out a wreath that will compliment your new paint. Did you know that wreaths do add warmth to your main entrance and at the same time, it is something that you can change easily. If it is possible, why not add art to your porch? You can easily do so by putting a tiny sculpture or painting. If you do that, it will give your porch a sort of focal point. This will bring a good and instant impact to your visitors for sure. You can also get one of your paintings; just make sure that you pick one that will compliment the current color of your porch. A decorative flower will also help in enhancing the look of your new decorated porch. This will give the area more life. Just ensure that you pick out something that is of the right size, and not something that will overcrowd your small porch. Now, let us talk about adding storage to your small porch. Your porch may be small, but you can easily add more storage space to it, without really crowding it. You can do so by getting columns for your porch. When they are painted in synch with your porch color, it can actually blend with it, and make the area looking a bit open. This is as opposed to putting one with a different color. Try to get those squares or rectangle ones, avoid getting the oval or circle ones, as they do tend to eat more space.

Since Thanksgiving was declared as an official yearly holiday in 1941, people have developed a trend of decorating their houses and lawns or yards with items related to the wonderful fall and harvest season. These decorations originated from several old European customs; when people celebrated the end of the harvest season; while the twentieth century gave birth to another sort of items. These are decorations like bundles of cornstalks and foddershocks usually set round with vegetables and fruits: pumpkins, gourds, cushaw and other Autumn items that we can see on the lawns or yards of a lot of houses. A great example is the “wicker man”, made out from straw or wicker, filled with fruits from the harvest that was burned in the honor of the gods; which has been inspired by an old European pagan custom. Another of those decorations stemming from these old customs is the wreath. A wreath was made out of woven grapevines or thin oak limbs and was generally decorated with wooden pine cones, oak leaves, miniature Indian corn, acorns and many other natural items from the Autumn season. The twentieth century opened a new era of profit to entrepreneurs, giving them the opportunity to sell more detailed decorations items for Thanksgiving, such as tableware, table cloth, decorated with fall shapes, candles, artificial vegetation, ornamental lights, and so much more! You can buy cute little “Tom Turkey” stand-ups to sit on your tables and pictures of happy settlers and native American folks gathered around a table enjoying a “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner. Ready-made foddershocks, fall wreaths, pine cones, ears of weath, oak leaves, miniature Indian corn, acorns are available in any retail store and even at the local road side flea market or farmer’s market.Obviously, if you want to save a lot of money while having some fun, you can create your Thanksgiving decorations by yourself.Homemade Thankgiving Craft #1: The FoddershockBuilding a foddershock is very easy. You just have to get a good number dried corn stalks, generally left in a corn field after a harvest, and bind them in the midsection of the bundle to create some kind of ‘tepee’ shaped bunching. Select the area of your garden or yard where you will stand the foddershock and sit a scarecrow close to it. Don’t forget to add some Autumn details like pumpkins, gourds, and diverse winter squashes.Make Your Own ScarecrowTo build scarecrows just bind two sticks firmly together forming a cross. Put a long sleeved shirt on the sticks – preferably a jean or flannel shirt – as well as an old pair of pants. You might want to add a few more details like gardening gloves or shoes… Make a head by stuffing an old pillow case or cloth sack with papers, old rags or fiberfill. Draw a face on the head and then stick the head on top of the upright stick, binding it at the base of the sack to the stick. Place an old hat on it and … that’s it! Head alternative: use a jack-o-lantern.There are so many great, money-saving, and simple decorations you can create. Use your creativity and start your own traditional Thanksgiving decorations!

The bride and female bridal party’s hair should never be forgotten when planning a wedding. In this article I will present you with some beautiful wedding flower deigns for the hair.
While the bride’s hair may be hidden during the ceremony it is exposed for everyone to see at the reception. Most brides remove their veils within 30 minutes of arriving at the reception hall. The removal of the veil is like a sign that reads, “Let the Party Begin!” Of course the maid of honor and bridesmaid hair is not hidden during any part of a wedding. The following wedding flower design ideas for the hair will hopefully help you decide on a terrific flowery hair-do.
Realizing that the 60’s have come and gone I will try to keep these ideas tasteful and simple. Unless of course you want a flower child wedding theme then all the power to you! Peace be with you as you and your gal pals make those groovy flowers!
Traditionally the bride’s flowers will be white or ivory. The maid of honor and bridesmaid will have flowers that are the same color as their dresses or a shade lighter or darker.
· Flower Tierra Veil – Not only is this a fairytale type veil, the Tierra can be decorated with flowers and wore through out the entire wedding. The veil portion just needs to be removed. I have always loved the Tierra look! Decorated with dainty flowers and small shinny beads the bride will feel like a fairy princess and look like one too.
· Handmade Single Flowers – You can choose any flower you would like for your hair and your bridal parties hair. The easiest flowers to make with crepe paper or mulberry paper are the following; the Lilly, peony and the gardenia. Aside from being easy to make these flowers also attach well to barrettes, hair clips and headbands. The best part of making these flowers yourself is you can make the bottom portion (the part that will attach to the clip, headband or barrette flat and smooth.) You can make them large enough to cover an entire bun style hair-do or small enough to have 12 of them on one headband. You also have the ability to make a flower that will fit on a bobby pin for a little flower girl who still has very thin hair.
· Floral Wreath Headpiece – This headpiece reminds me of the lei they place around your neck when you step off the airplane in Hawaii. I suppose because that is basically what it is. Orchids are very popular with these headpieces. However, you can choose any flower you would like to make it. You can purchase the floral head wreath at a floral shop or make your own using a semi thick smooth rope. You will most likely need a few bobby pins to hold it in place regardless of which one you choose to wear. For the bride this wreath often replaces the traditional veil all together. The best part of this flower hair design is you can make any flower or combination of flowers and colors to assemble it.
· The Wrap Around Piece – This hairpiece is designed with brides and females with short hair in mind. It is a simple piece of colored or white cloth wrap that you can decorate with flowers, beads, and even a few leaves if you would like. To attach your crepe paper or mulberry paper flowers you will need fabric glue or to be on the safe side the flowers should be sewn on. This headpiece does require a little more work but it is well worth it.
Flowers make a gorgeous statement! All of these wedding flower deigns for the hair will be screaming look at me “I’m Beautiful!” All the while you will be proud knowing that you created the flowery masterpiece in your hair that everyone is complimenting you on!

Turn your fireplace into the focal point of your holiday home with easy and inexpensive fireplace arrangements.
The fireplace often becomes a focal point during the winter months as days become shorter and nights become chilly. Decorate yours for Christmas with these simple ideas.
Get back to nature with a outdoor inspired theme for holidays. Obtain the look of more space by hanging a large mirror on top of the fireplace}. To achieve this natural design, cover the mantel with different types of artificial moss. Add two redvases hold arrangements of artificial berry stems to create a holiday feel, incorporate potted artificial evergreens that are decorated with colorful string lights.
It’s easy toobtain the appearance of luxury by using a little imagination. Celebrate the {season|holiday|holiday by draping your mantel with season cheer. Create a beautiful display with a decorative garland that drapes over the snow globes. Now place a display of gifts in seasonal wrapping.
For something less traditional create a round wreath with artificial roses in shades of purple to give the fireplace a refreshing modern look. For a orinal fireplace of your own, add a pine garland and add different-sized glass ball ornaments. To carry the idea further, add a pair of large candles for those cozy holiday evenings by the hearth.
A large mirror is the perfect focal point for a holiday fireplace. In addition to providing a perfect backdrop for the decorations, mirrors open up the space. To make a alluring mantel display, hang a gold wreath with a red ribbon in the center of the mirror, and drape evergreen garland across the fireplace. A pair of large silver vases on either side of the mantel provide balance. Fill the vases with tall Christmas silk flowers for added impact.
A seasonal favorite is a country theme. It is not hard to do by highlighting the mantel with a pre-lit evergreen garland that is accented with silk mini roses. Hang a big wreath in the center above the mantel, adding a few large pinecones for a holiday look. A wicker basket full of small log gives the mantel a quaint, homey appearance, while a couple wrapped gifts of assorted sizes placed on either side of the hearth make it all the more impressive.
Enjoy the holiday season and have a happy New Year!

Christmas is a time of celebration, beauty and fun. We decorate the houses to contribute to the gaiety and festive spirit of the Christmas holidays. We use lights, colors, ornaments, wreaths, garlands, stars and the Christmas tree to add more and more loveliness to the homes. Christmas tree with fancy lights and musical décors is undoubtedly the highlight of these decorations. So take your cutters, papers, ornaments, glitters, ribbons and glue to carve out your best Christmas ever.
To get the best result out of Christmas decorations, try to remain simple in whatever you choose as Christmas décor items. Simple homemade Christmas decorations are still considered to be the best of the lot. As previously stated, try to remain soft and subtle with the colors and elements that are used for the decoration of Christmas. Make sure that Christmas celebrations do turn out to be the best this year by following the few useful Christmas decoration tips.
Christmas Home Decoration
Christmas decorations are traditionally colored in red and green. Nevertheless, you don’t have to stick on to these two colors. You can use all the bright colors from the color palette for the glorious holiday. Be creative enough to make bows from ribbons of various bright colors and place them all across the walls, staircase and windows. Put in a special festive feeling in every corner of the house. Make sure that every corner of the house is painted with Christmas Colors. You can also decorate the house with Christmas motifs from cardboards, cloth and papers. Make patterns like Santa, Star or stockings and place them all over the house. You can also place all of these decoration items on the tables and the curtains. It is recommended to use tablecloths, colored in green and red or something that has Christmas motifs in them. Outdoor Christmas decorations should also be paid heed to. A motif of a Santa or a Star can be made out from a cardboard and hanged on the wall outside the house. This decorative idea might be a bit different from the other decorations.
Christmas decoration without a Christmas tree is incomplete. But then how to decorate the Christmas tree?
Christmas Tree Decoration
The most important of all Christmas décor items is the Christmas tree. They find the primary place in Christmas celebrations. The size of the Christmas tree can be big or small – depending on the size of the room. It, however, should not block any view and rather catch the attention of all the guests. You should make it as bright as possible using elements that are bought from the market and also made at home. Use your creativity and imagination to bring that extra beauty in your Christmas tree.
The décor pieces for the Christmas tree could be rings, bells and candies, being wrapped in colored wrappers. One can also use battery operated lights for decorating Christmas trees. Christmas wreaths are another option of decorating the staircase and the walls. Festivity at its best – Christmas trees usually play the vital role in decoration during Christmas. There could be other plants placed in different parts of the house, being lighted up with varied decorative elements. This, in all, will create a unique ambience in the house and make the festive mood more vibrant.
Christmas Lighting Idea
Christmas lighting has the pivotal role in setting the right Christmas mood. After all, you have to make the festive atmosphere carry all that element of vibrancy. Do not use electric lights and for that matter you could also employ your creativity in decorating the fireplace in your house. Use the right colors of light for decoration purpose. The usual colors that are used for Christmas are red, green. You could also experiment with blue, mauve and copper lights.
Christmas Star Decoration
An easy home-made Christmas star can be made in a jiffy using shiny red wrapping paper, cardboard, scissors, glue, glitter and some string. Draw a huge star on the cardboard and cut it out. Make a hole on the top. Cover it with the foil or shiny wrapping paper. Paint glue in any pattern on the star and spread the glitter over it. Dust off the excess glitter, when the glue dries. Attach the string and your star is ready to be hanged anywhere you wish. Christmas wreaths made of evergreen leaves with bright red ribbon bows look beautiful too along with hollies and bells. Read this section for some great tips and ideas for your Christmas decoration.
Get involved in the ultimate celebration this year and make this Christmas a one to cherish lifelong. Include everything that is possible to light up the occasion in full vigor and such that it brings real joy, peace and happiness amongst all.

Small porch decorating is fun and challenging. Most homes today have small porches for a variety of reasons.Although they do not have a lot of decorating space you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you can do to create a huge visual impact, add storage, and even a few amenities.
Start with hardware
Another small porch decorating idea is replacing your door bell. Most need to be replaced periodically. They are easy to replace because they are low voltage; no need to turn off the power in most cases. Consider replacing it with one that lights at night.
Look up. Replace your porch ceiling fixture with one that fits your decorating style. You have so many options for lighting. If your porch ceiling is high enough you might choose a hanging light. As a minimum clean your light fixtures; most go untouched for years. The same goes for wall sconce lights if your porch has them.
Color selection is extremely important for small porch decorating. Make a dramatic impact by painting the front door a contrasting color. It’s easy to do and can create immediate curb appeal. You may want to get sample paint colors from your local building supply store so you can try a few different colors to find just the right look. We recommend you also invest in a very good paint brush to give your door a professional look.
Select a wreath that complements your door’s new color. A beautiful wreath adds warmth to your front entrance and can easily be changed for the season or holiday.
Add outdoor art for small porch decorating. This can be in the form of a wall sculpture or outdoor painting. This will give your porch a focal point, another great decorating feature. If you want to really show your decorating skills, select art that contains the color of your newly painted front door to create a cohesive look. Attach it firmly so that it will not blow in the wind. Hanging it on a hook like an indoor picture will not work.
Another way to create a focal point is to add a decorative flower container or sculpture. Select a piece that is proportional in size to your overall porch. It needs to be large enough to be a visual focal point but not too large as to overpower the porch or take up too much space.
Add a shelf. Not only does it provide a place to put packages while opening the door it can be painted to match you color scheme. No room for a shelf? Then perhaps a small bench will serve the same purpose.
Small porch decorating includes your porch columns. Often times, people overlook porch columns. Make sure they are in good repair and freshly painted. Consider changing the color or style. Column wraps are available to turn square or rectangular columns into round ones for a different look. You can also add stone bases to give your porch a craftsman-style look.
Replace or purchase a new door mat. Because they come in all sizes, colors, textures, materials, and styles, you can use them as a decorative piece as well as being functional. Like your wreaths, you can change them out to suit the season or holiday.
We cannot forget the porch flooring. Consider using interlocking deck tiles to change the look of your porch floor. This is an easy do-it-yourself project and one that can add both appeal and potential value to your home. They also come in a variety of styles so you can create your own special look. They work on almost any existing surface, wood, concrete, stone, and composites. However, they are not recommended for steps.
Remember, your porch is the first space a person sees when visiting your home. Use it to create a lasting impression. Small porch decorating can be fun, inexpensive, and will create great curb appeal.

Hey, who says that Christmas decorating is only for the tree and fireplace mantle rooms? Not us at Ada’s Interior Design. An easy way to bring a smile to yourself and guests, family, friends that come to visit is to creatively decorate in unexpected places.
But of course, we already have lots to do around the holidays, so these tips are geared to be simple, easy to implement, yet made a dramatically FUN affect when viewed.
Here are 2 ideas to Deck(orate) your Halls (hallway, foyer, cool corridor).
1. Create a “Christmas wall” by mounting a corkboard or a magnetic board that hold pictures and mementos. Pin Christmas pictures from the past that will spark conversations among your guests. Have an instant camera ready to take pictures of visiting family and friends. Instantly print picture and mount onto the “Christmas wall”.
2. Gather solid color round decorative tree ornaments and place them in a large clear bowl on your foyer’s console table. Then place several markers on the same console and invite your family and guests to grab one ornament and write their name with a Christmas message on the label. Finally, invite them to place their selected ornament onto the tree.
Below are 4 ways that you can EASILY and ECONOMICALLY decorate your doors to make a HUGE holiday FUN statement. Deck your halls with creativity by:
1. Assigning different Christmas themes to each door. Hang art, frames, or decor that represent different Christmas symbols onto EACH door to distinguish each door; such as, the snowman door, the Santa Claus door, the reindeer door.
2. Having your children, nieces, or nephews draw Christmas pictures then assign one of each drawing to every door in your home – guaranteed to make you smile!
3. Tying different color fabric plastic ornaments onto doorknobs, add small jingle bells.
4. Hanging different decorated wreaths to different room doors. So, instead of saying the bathroom is the 3rd door on the right, you can say the bathroom is the door with the white rose wreath or the snowman wreath … this will guide people to view & appreciate your creative wreaths while having fun looking for their destination (pee pee room). Plus, people tend to remember visual directions more than numbered instructions.

Which day remains in our memory for as long as we live? What preceded each and every family life? Indeed, you will agree with me, in fact, everybody will agree – it is our own wedding day! From as young as 12 years old I began to dream about my future family and my wedding day! I tried to get all possible information about wedding tips and ideas. My room was piled up with magazines and books on weddings in different countries, wedding traditions in different cultures and nations. Many years passed since that time. Till now this information helped not only me for my the most important day in my life, but to many of my friends and colleagues – for their wedding day. And today I would love to share my homework on weddings with you. Worth-trying wedding ideas from foreign cultures. Surely, it will make your own wedding very unique and really memorable. And here it follows… An example of unique combination of old and modern traditions we can find in Russian and Ukrainian weddings.Customs of weddings in RussiaNowadays, Russian weddings come in a variety of different forms. They can contain elements of a traditional Russian wedding and also hints of a European or American-style wedding. The latter have become more and more popular and modern in recent years. True Russian weddings are unique in the fact that they are always lavishly played out! We say “played out,” as a Russian wedding ceremony is usually conducted as though it were a theatre spectacle where there is a script and everyone knows their role.In times gone by, a form of courtship would have taken place to secure the union of the happy couple. By tradition, the groom’s parents would ask the bride’s parents for their daughter’s hand in marriage for their son. Nowadays, this tradition has become practically extinct and only from time to time will the groom ask the bride’s parents for their daughter’s hand in marriage or request an approval of their union. As part of the Russian wedding ceremony, people still enjoy the tradition of ransoming the bride. Before the young couple leave to go to the ZAGS (Registry Office), the groom must go to his future wife’s house where he will be greeted by friends of the bride, relatives and guests. They organise various fun games for the groom, like, for example, asking him challenging risque questions, persuading him to carry out certain tasks and demanding a ransom for the bride. The groom must fulfil all the tasks, namely, singing, dancing, reciting poetry, solving riddles and various other challenges. Then, as a ransom, he must give out sweets and money to all those who have arranged the obstacles along the way to him winning his bride (in other words, those who have set the groom challenges to prove that he is worthy of his bride.)There is an age-old tradition that on the day before the wedding the bride will arrange a hen party and invite all her friends who will support and protect her in her new life. It is becoming an essential part of new traditions that the groom should organise a separate party for his male-friends; a tradition that has been imported from the West. The groom will say goodbye to his bachelor lifestyle whilst in the company of his friends. After the registration in the ZAGS or the ceremony in the church, the newlyweds and all their guests go to the reception which is usually held in a restaurant, a banqueting hall or at someone’s house. By tradition, the young couple is met by the mother of the groom or all the parents who offer them bread and salt. The young couple must then take turns to eat the bread. The person who eats the largest piece of bread will be the head of the household. This equal opportunity ritual between the couple has only been observed recently as before it would have always been the male who would stand at the head of the household. It is while everyone is sat around the table that all the guests will pass on their good wishes to the couple, raise toasts and offer presents. By tradition, two toddlers will be put in the centre of the room, one dressed in blue to symbolise a boy and the other dressed in pink to symbolise a girl. The guests will then offer sums of money to whichever toddler they choose. The toddler who receives the most money determines the sex of the married couple’s first child.A fundamental component of the Russian wedding is the cries of “gor’ko” where the newlyweds must stand and kiss for as long as possible. All the guests stand round them and count “1, 2, 3… 15…. 20, etc.” The longer the young couple can kiss for, the stronger their union will be. The guests always demand that they kiss for as long as possible. Often, the reception can be a tiring experience for the young couple as they have to entertain their guests by this kissing ritual.According to European tradition, the wedding ends with the bride throwing her bouquet over her head to all the unmarried girls in the crowd. Whoever catches it will become the next bride. After the ceremony has ended, the young couple goes off to their new house or hotel. At this point, the groom must take the bride in his arms and carry her across the threshold; a local custom that indicates the strength of their marriage. As a rule, the young couple then happily journey off into the sunset for their honeymoon.Ukrainian WeddingsGiven their common Slavic roots and culture, it is not surprising that Ukrainian weddings are very similar to Russian weddings. However, some variations do exist. On the day of the wedding, the groom’s first duty is to pick up his bride from her house. Before he meets his loved one he is met by relatives and friends who will demand a ransom for the bride. This is the most special and exciting part of the whole affair. The groom must complete several tasks in order to demonstrate his strength and intellect. If he fails to complete a task, then he must give out money, sweets and drinks to the guests. The result of his efforts is the possession of his loved one. This tradition remains popular to this day. After the groom’s challenges, the young couple will go to the ZAGS (Registry Office) and then the church (if they so choose). A celebration of the events usually follows the registration of the marriage. In today’s world, weddings in Ukraine can be compared with weddings in Europe, where the main ceremony is conducted in prestigious restaurants or big halls.Despite the loss of some traditions, the guests still present the young couple with a karavai loaf. As a rule, the loaf is baked only by those women whose family life has been very successful as it is said to bring good luck to the young couple in their own family life. The newly-wed couple will free two white doves – usually in front of the building where their wedding proceedings take place. One of the distinguishing parts of a Ukrainian wedding is that a giltse (a large wreath which is decorated with flowers and ribbons) is placed on the table next to the karavai loaf. This symbolises maidenly beauty and innocence. On her head, the Ukrainian bride will wear a wreath with different coloured cascading ribbons. At the end of the festivities, the bride will throw the wreath into a crowd of unmarried girls. The person who catches the wreath will become the next bride. This tradition is very similar to the European tradition where the bride throws her bouquet into the crowd. It has been said that the European tradition of throwing a bouquet into the crowd came from the Ukrainian tradition of throwing wreathes, however, nowadays Ukrainian weddings usually conform to European traditions. The host of the occasions will organise fun games, poems and little ditties. Guests usually give the couple useful, practical gifts, which will be helpful to the couple in their married life. Accepting the gifts is no easy matter. The bride and groom must show interest in every gift. They must unwrap the present, study it and then express their gratitude to the guest. The money usually goes to the groom, and other items and flowers go to the bride.Without any doubt, some wedding traditions are intertwined and interrelated in all cultures. There is always room for improvement in preparation for the moment of your dream – wedding day. Do your own research, share ideas with others, send me your own wedding tips – it will assist us all. Our efforts can make a difference to make wedding ceremonies better, brighter, more exclusive and worthy to be proud of.
