Outdoor Christmas Decorating Tips.

Posted on May 06, 2010 under wreaths | Comments are off

The purpose for decorating at Christmas time is to provide an atmosphere that will make all your friends and family feel warm, cheerful and most of all welcome in your home. With this in mind the first place to start is the outside of your front door. One idea is to drape a lush 9 foot strand of real or Artificial Pine Garland around the top of the door and let the ends hang on either side. Either type of Garland can be lit with Mini Lights or C7, C9 Outdoor Lights or a combination. You can easily hang Shatterproof Ornament Balls by using some green floral wire. You might also want to add some small floral picks with holly berries or other types of red berries or even some snow frosted greenery picks. Adding a couple strands of Iridescent White Berry Spray will add the effect of glistening snow. Velvet Ribbon bows add a nice touch of color and are easy to make.
If you prefer the look of a Wreath hanging on your front door, they can be just as easily purchased online in either real Pine or Artificial Christmas Wreath styles. If you have a double door you can purchase one for each door or one that will separate when one door opens. If you choose one that separates just make sure if you light it or use ribbon that you don’t run either all the way around the wreath. Add smaller Wreaths of identical style to each of your front windows. You only need to decorate these with a Velvet Ribbon Bow. Wreaths can be lit with Battery Operated Lights, small Mini Lights, C7 or C9 Lights or a combination. Wreaths can be decorated much the same way as Garlands. Just remember that a little green floral wire will make your job much easier and more enjoyable. If you have a theme for your Decorations inside your home, such as why not introduce it on your front door by adding Nutcracker Ornaments to your Garland and a small Nutcracker to the inside of your Artificial Christmas Wreath.
Decorating Your Front Yard.
Another fun way to add some Christmas Sparkle to the front of your home is to decorate the pathway or sidewalk leading to your front door. Use C9 lights which come in a variety of colors, attached to hard plastic Yard Stakes. This forms a fence like effect. As well as a range of colors to choose from, you can also choose whether the lights will twinkle or not. There are several styles of Luminaries you can choose from which cover the C9 lights and give a reflection of snowmen, angels or Christmas trees to name a few. There are even Snowmen or Large Nutcrackers or Toy Soldiers that you can use to line your pathway or stand beside your door to greet your guests. Your lawn can easily be decorated with Halographic Yard Art. These come in everything from Disney characters to Santa, Rudolph and all the other traditional Christmas characters. Don’t forget the Manger Scene that reminds us all of the reason for our Christmas Celebration.

Getting Ready for Christmas

It is that time of the year and we catch ourselves rushing to do the last minute things for Christmas. We celebrate Christmas almost as long as we live but why is it that we catch ourselves running around when it’s time to open presents and sing carols? How are you going to get ready for Christmas this year?

There are some simple things you can do this year to ahead of the game. First and foremost make a list of all the people who are close to you and your family that you need to buy gifts for this year; it is okay to include your work friends in this list. Then make a second list for your kids and grandkids and include in the list the toys or games that they talk about the most and love. Decide how much money you have to spend on the gifts. Some dollar stores have beautiful items of good quality that you can give as gifts for your friends. Last year, I was able to buy gifts for thirty of my friends for less than eighty dollars at the Dollar Tree.  The fun part is that they all thought I spend so much money. For women you can buy something to decorate their house, if you are the boyfriend or husband stick with jewelry. Picture frames and plaques are really good gifts but make sure the person receiving the plaque really likes things like this. Online is the best way if you hate shopping like I do. There are some online stores that offer prices lot less than the regular retail store and they ship directly to your door step.

Now that you have gifts out of the way, let’s talk about decorating your house for the holidays. I have seen people spend money every year for decorations like wreath and Christmas tree. Buy a nice artificial Christmas wreath, to add value to the artificial Christmas wreath, pass the Christmas wreath to your daughter, granddaughter or your niece. This will become a tradition in your family long after you are gone. You can find beautiful artificial Christmas wreaths that you can pass it along from one generation to another. You can also involve your daughter or granddaughter in picking the wreath and other decorations to go along with it to make the process meaningful and to create a wonderful memory.

Some of the artificial Christmas wreaths I like are by Thomas Kinkade. Victoria Christmas Wreath is my favorite.  You can also buy artificial Christmas tree that you can use year after year and save money. In order for you decorations to be perfect, make sure your wreath, Christmas tree and house decoration are on one theme. You have taken care of the gifts and decorations and the only thing left is Christmas parties.

Always make sure that your decorations are ready to be hung before Thanksgiving. The gift list should be ready by Thanksgiving. In that way you have at least two or three weeks to get organized before the big day. Merry Christmas!

Decorating With Wall Planters – Transform Your Kitchen Into A Room With Designer Appeal

Posted on Mar 14, 2010 under dried foliage | Comments are off

The kitchen truly is the heart of the home. It is where meals are prepared and where family and friends enjoy spending time together. This is why it is important to decorate the kitchen to make it more comfortable and inviting, and wall planters can give it a warm and welcoming feel. Whether the decorating theme is Tuscan, floral, or cottage, metal wall planters are versatile works of art that can transform almost any kitchen into a room with designer appeal.
Create a Cottage-Style Kitchen Window Display
A kitchen window with plenty of space below the sill can be decorated with a series of metal wall planters for a unique cottage appearance. Measure the width of the window, and choose a number of metal wall planters to span the entire width. Hang them side-by-side, and fill them with beautiful faux flowers of your choice for an ever-blooming cottage-style kitchen display. The flowers and foliage in wall planters can easily be changed according to the season or an upcoming holiday, and it will make the kitchen feel like a warm and inviting country cottage.
Unique Window Treatment Finials
Finials are the signature of fine window treatments, and for a really impressive kitchen display, forget the decorative curtain rods and finials. Choose ordinary curtain rods, and mount beautiful metal wall planters next to the corners of window treatments for an impressive finishing touch. Add realistic looking ivy for a very impressive display that will match many different kitchen styles and themes.
Creating a Focal Point with Wall Planters
If you have an empty wall, create a stunning focal point with metal wall planters and a beautiful clock. Instead of choosing a typical clock, choose something more impressive, and surround it with planters filled with flowers that compliment the color of room decor. Add a few trailing vines for added design and three-dimensional appeal. This striking display will add a great deal of beauty and style to room. The metal wall planters can be altered with different blooms and foliage, and they will never look tired or outdated.
Ideas for Blooms and Foliage
Almost any types of faux flowers and foliage are ideal for displaying in a kitchen, but dried herbs are especially lovely, especially fragrant varieties. Consider arranging colorful dried flowers with springs of dried sage, lavender, basil, or even cilantro. The herbs will fill the kitchen with delectable scents while adding interest and design.
If dried herbs are not as colorful as you would like, add a few artificial blooms. Consider choosing beautiful artificial snapdragons, Shasta daisies, or geranium blooms, and tuck in a few smaller flowers such as forget-me-nots or miniature carnations. Dried fern leaves, baby’s breath, and strawflowers are also wonderful fill-ins for metal wall vases displayed in a kitchen.
In any case, metal wall planters are an excellent choice when looking for unique ways to decorate walls. Whether the kitchen is large or small, you can find the wall space necessary to display metal planters. The metal wall planters you choose are sure to become favorite works of art that will be passed down from generation to generation, and they will add beauty and style unlike any other decor you might choose.

Decorating Ideas With the Traditional Christmas Wreath

Posted on Mar 09, 2010 under wreaths | Comments are off

Whenever most people start decorating for the coming Christmas, they typically set up with the Christmas tree and adorn it with lights and other fancy embellishments. It’s true that conventional Christmas ornaments almost constantly seem to focus round the jovial evergreen, with its broad range of adornment choices and unique pine scent.
However, there are ample more potential to help you adorn your home with multicolored touches inspired by Mother Nature and the winter period. The dark green color often linked with the Christmas ornaments are an amazing background for red, gold and silver accents. The twigs of trees such as the Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir or Scotch Pines which can be made to beautify mantelpieces, shape a foundation for center table arrangements or offer a lovely setting for Christmas wreaths.
Here are a few ideas for Christmas decorations to draw out a cheerful look into your home, both inside and out:
1. Centerpiece decoration for the merry table: Do you have a set of petite wicker baskets stored in your kitchen or lying around in your garage? You can make use one of these baskets to shape the foundation of a table ornament for a unique holiday lunch or dinner. Make use of some floral foam or oasis to secure pieces of fir, holly or pine — then put in some accents to set off the design such as berries, pinecones, even tree embellishments.
2. Beautify a doorway or arch by making use of a garland of pine rope. Add some nice touch ups by frilling it with matching colors and shapes such as bows or ribbons, pinecones, dried fruits and full spices.
3. Hang a Christmas wreath on your front door or front porch to greet Christmas carolers and your holiday guests. You can find a broad assortment of designs and types to go well with your taste and match the rest of your holiday decors. If you prefer to make some alterations, search out for extra unique stuff like boxwood as a substitute to the most common holly or pine. You can customize your wreath with natural or painted pinecones or berries — and, of course, jazz it up with a very lovely ribbon to add more elegance and compare its colors!
Should you opt to purchase a standard Christmas wreath, garland or swag, you have all sorts of potential for garnishing it in your own special way. One better feature of these added extras is that you may be capable to disengage them when it’s time to get Christmas ornaments down and store them up for use again for next season. The next Christmas season, you can just take them out from the attic and make a new one.
Wonderful ornaments such as Christmas wreaths, door garlands and swags sets off your Christmas tree and lengthen the winter evergreen theme to other areas of your home, both inside and out. Using some imagination and ingenuity, you can customize store-bought stuff to give them an exceptional look and appeal.

How to Spruce Up your Cake With Cake Decorating Flowers

Posted on Mar 06, 2010 under dried flowers | Comments are off

Cake decorating flowers help spruce up the cake. And of course, decorating a cake is the most difficult part of the entire process. If you can come up with innovative ideas to decorate the cake, everyone appreciates the delicious cake thoroughly. Cake decorating flowers give a new dimension to your cake.

You have a choice to select cake decorating flowers. You can use the real edible flowers to decorate your cake. Before you use real flowers to decorate your cake here are some things that you should keep in your mind.

Pick up only those flowers that you are absolutely sure are edible. Make sure the flowers you use are from your own backyard. So that you are sure that no pesticide is used. Do not use flowers bought from a florist. If you pick up flowers from garden centers or nurseries they may be treated with pesticides which can be harmful to you.

Some of the edible flowers that can be used are daisies, nasturtiums, Johnny-jump-ups, roses, calendulas, violets and lavender. Sometimes only petals are used to decorate the cake instead of the entire flower. Only thing is go easy on flower decoration as sometimes people have allergic reaction to the flowers.

You can sugar glaze the flowers by covering the flower with egg white and then sprinkle the flower with sugar. Let them fry which will take a few hours. The end result will be sugar glazed cake decorating flowers for your cake.

Another option is to use artificial flowers. You can choose from the wide variety that is available in the market. Cut the stems short. Put together the flowers. Arrange in any way that you feel looks good and put it on the cake.

You can get edible sugar flowers. With the help of food colors in paste form and dusting powder you can change the color of the sugar flowers to match the theme of the occasion. If you are decorating a wedding cake then you can match the flower color to the theme of the wedding hall or to the colors of real flowers the girls are carrying. The possibilities are immense as well as endless.

There are different types of flowers made from different ingredients. You can get flowers made with Buttercream, Royal icing, gumpaste or readymade silk flowers. Royal icing is used for making many flowers such as roses, pansies, daisies, violets etc. The royal icing dries hard so the flowers made from this icing can remain firm and do not wilt easily.

But if you want really hard flowers use gumpaste. It is sugar dough that can be easily rolled out. It can be shaped like flowers. Flowers made from the gumpaste look very realistic.

You can use Buttercream to make roses with or without leaves.

You can use the cake decorating flowers directly on the cake. Some of the manufacturers have come up with flower holders. You can use those holders to arrange your cake decorating flowers. Or you can bake the cake which has some space in the cake. You can put some kind of flower holder in that gap and then put real flowers in it so the flowers will not touch the cake but a stunning effect will be achieved.

Easy Christmas Wreath Decorating Ideas

Posted on Feb 25, 2010 under wreaths | Comments are off

The Christmas wreath is a traditional decoration that is almost as popular as the Christmas tree. When hung on the front door, a Christmas wreath makes a warm welcoming for you and your guests. Giving your wreath a little extra pizzazz will make that welcome even more special and stand out from the rest.

Light it up

Adding lights gives your wreath an added dimension. A lit wreath makes a great statement, even from the curb (with a lot less work than hanging lights on the roofline). There are many lighting options, including white lights, colored lights, pre-lit wreaths and fiber optics. If you are adding your own lights, look for battery-operated strands at your garden supply store. A cord can turn into a tangled mess in the doorway, but a battery-operated solution can make your wreath sparkle without the fuss.

Ribbon

Ribbon dresses up any wreath. You can simply add one large bow or wrap the ribbon all around for even more impact. Or, tie lots of small bows for an all-over pattern. Ribbon with wire is best for dressing wreaths, because the shape of the ribbon stays put how you want it. It is better to have too much than too little – so buy a little more than you think you’ll use. Skimping out on the ribbon is noticeable, but if you do it right, ribbon will add fullness and style to your wreath.

Festive flowers

Flowers make a great display on wreaths. Silk flowers work best because they aren’t as fragile as live flowers and they last a lot longer. Poinsettias are a popular choice, but you may also consider purchasing plastic fruit. Adding plants brings life and color to your wreath.

Ornamentation

Branch out from the traditional wreath and add some personality with ornaments. Christmas tree ornaments can be tied onto a wreath with wire or fishing line. Just be sure you secure them tightly so they do not fall off when the door opens and closes. Don’t feel limited to Christmas ornaments. There are many objects that can enhance your wreath’s appearance. Some other items that can accent your wreath are:

Virtually any small item can be attached to a wreath. So, get creative and think of original ideas that reflect your distinct personality.

Finishing touches

It’s always the little finishing touches that really stand out. They are what make your wreath pop and stand from the rest. Some ideas that will complete your look include:

The wreath hanging on your front door is one of the first things to greet your guests. If you put thought into your wreath and decorate it with personal touches, you will make a great first impression. Plus, it’s a great welcoming for YOU. You will get that warm feeling of home before you even open the door.

Posted on Feb 23, 2010 under dried flowers | Comments are off

Floral arrangements are enhance a space with ease. There are different forms of floral arrangements which vary in shapes and sizes. There are three basic forms of floral arrangements which are circle, square and triangle. You can either make the arrangement yourself or hire an excellent florist who will understand your needs and brighten up your home There are many different styles in which you can decorate your home with flowers. If you’re lucky a good florist will understand your style and make sure something reaches your home every other day. You need to explain to them the way you want the flowers to be. You could be extremely modern in your tastes and choose floral arrangements and flowers that bring flow with the space and available light in the house. These arrangements balance space with the amount of light available. The flowers chosen are usually bright so you can expect reds and bright yellows. In a contemporary design you have to match natural colours of the interiors with the colours of the flowers. These arrangements enhance the space and its internal design. You can choose extremely old school English designs. They will remind you of the English country side that has a lot of green accented with flowers. If you have a lot of prints in the house it is a good idea to opt for English style floral arrangements. It also compliments wooden flooring and dark wood furniture. The flowers that we suggest are tulips, roses and gardenias. If you have a country style home with a lot of earthy colours we suggest flowers in another form; try potpourri to compliment the wooden smell and tones. You can also opt for wreaths. Choose flowers that will add more colour to the space. Think about carnations and sunflowers. If you want to be more creative use natural elements to place the arrangements in. Try a bamboo vase or wicker basket for the dried flowers. You can also choose tropical and oriental floral arrangements. They compliment furniture from India and Bali. If you have a beautiful teak table accent it with white flowers emphasising on the texture and colour of the table. Here you need flowers like orchids, tiger lilies or tuberose. You can also use ferns in the floral arrangements to add more depth in the arrangement. If you are a fan of the orient, try Ikebana arrangements which are extremely creative and fun. Posted on Feb 14, 2010 under wreaths | Comments are off

Adding a touch of classy romance and country style charm to a plain willow branch wreath can bring admirable envy to your own entry way, or any currently unadorned passage.  To honor our annual salute to love and romance, a well thought out and unique Valentines Wreath will stand out as an original Valentines craft idea.

For this simple yet loving project, a willow branch wreath was used to resemble a bird’s nest.  Using a hot glue gun, attach crafters moss along the inside edge of the wreath.  Next, wrap red fabric knit around the top of the wreath.  Then, before tying the bow, run the red fabric knit through the hook at the top of the ornament securing it as you make the bow on the wreath.  We are moving along pretty quick here.  To complete the project take 3 heart shaped picks, and using wire cutters remove all but 1 inch of the stem.  Insert the 3 heart shaped picks, staggering them along the right side of the wreath, which allows the attached ribbon to show.  Keeping the wreath simple is the key to this design.  Your goal is to make key focal points of your Valentines wreath design stand out to the viewer coming through the door way.  Here is quick list of the supplies needed:
