KP’s Wacky Weather Show: “Fall Foliage”

This is KP’s Wacky Weather Show, a show where Kevin Puricelli teaches you all you’ll ever need to know about Meteorology.

In this clip, he’ll show you just how excited the fall foliage can be in St. Louis!

In 2008, St. Louis achieved the wettest year on record in its recorded history – it was no wonder that the fall color arrived late. All the water allowed chlorophyll to be replenished late in the season. So there was virtually no Red in any of the dying foliage. You want dry cool nights to achieve the best fall foliage. This definitely didn’t happen in 2008. What did happen was that all the water forming chlorophyll did allow for a lot of tannin to build up in the tree much faster than normal. You could definitely see this in the landscape shot. With this said, the Northeast is your best chance especially during a drought. With this knowledge, everyone can anticipate how the fall foliage will be in your area!
