Dying Astilbe's, HELP!?
Posted on Apr 22, 2009 under dried foliage | 1 CommentI planted astilbe bulbs back in March, they sprouted wonderfully. The foliage was a vibrant healthy green, and the astilbe sprouts for the flowers came up nicely as well. They haven't flowered yet though. I was watering them mostly everyday, and then stopped watering because I noticed they werent drying out at all. Apparently I soaked them because they've begun to die. I just transfered them to drier soil today and they look worse. Should I cut back all the dead leaves and stuff? Help!! I dont want my beautiful astilbe's to die!!
I forgot to add they are potted, indoors, not in the ground.
My astilbe's are currently potted just to start them out. I recently bought a house but haven't moved in yet. I'm in an apartment with no yard, so I figured I'd get them started in a pot, and transfer them to the ground when I move into the house.
Astilbe's are not bulbs, they are hardy herbaceous perennials and are best grown outside. They are shade loving plants and like cool moist conditions. It could be to warm for them indoors. Also they develope quite large root systems so might be needing a bigger pot .
It is quite difficult to maintain astilbe's as a house plant. Not something I would try.
