I certainly have a lot of nettles for my food storage for the year, now! it’s the best harvest I’ve ever had! But the rain came into the tipi and made tea through some of them. :/

What should i do with my lillies after they have flowered?
I bought a load of lily bulbs on offer at the end of spring, they are a mix of varieties. I put them all in pots to try and protect from the slugs. What do i do when they have bloomed and the foliage dies off – dug them up and dry them or leave them in the pot until next year? do the bulbs multiply in the ground?
Thanks!
Well most often lilies like being in the ground.
If not they tend to freeze solid over the winter.
To protect them from slugs use Diatomasious Earth , it will cut slugs to ribbons with out hurting any mammals.
If you are the only mammal in the area, then get some kind of slug bait type of poison to circle the lilies that you place in the earth.
I have dug day lilies and wintered them in the cold barn, not freezing barn.
They are small and late to bloom in the spring
I never have tried Asiatic lilies because I live in Massachusetts and do not wish to fight the lily beetle all darn summer!!!

Can anyone suggest how to store silk flowers so as not to crush them. Some flowers can snap back but some can't. I'd rather not find out which ones of mine can't as they are expensive. I'm looking for a way to store them in an upright position in a small walk-in closet. I have them loosely packed in boxes now but this is not an ideal long-term storage remedy for me. I want them organized and in pristine condition.
Thanks for the help!
A shoe holder would work. The kind that hangs from the pole, and has dozens of plastic pockets.

I want to make a pin out of real preserved flowers like this one:

What kind of lacquer should I use?
The link doesn't work for me, but you can use many clear-drying finishes over something like preserved flowers *as long as* they're thoroughly dried out first.
That would include (one or more layers of) clear polyurethane, clear fingernail polish, and also things like permanent white glue (like Elmers GlueAll) thinned down 3 or 4 to 1 with water, "dimensional" white glues like Diamond Glaze, etc., "acrylic mediums," and even 2 part epoxy resins or 2 part epoxy glues.
Those will dry to various finishes… for example, the white glues will dry fairly glossy; polyurethanes come in glossy, satin, or matte versions usually, acrylic mediums also come in versions, etc.
However, some of the flowers at that site say they are "real-looking" silk flowers or "wax laminated" fabric flowers, etc., so wouldn't even be real flowers.
There are some ways to preserve real flowers with silica gel, etc., but don't know how sturdy those would be for wearing. Here's a bit of stuff from my site about doing that:
to dry flowers so they stay dimensional, you can dry by using a drying agent around them
…e.g., silica gel, kitty litter, or sand (fine builder's sand, silica sand), or (2 to 1) borax + white cornmeal
….cover flowers gently…cover container, put in microwave next to small bowl or 1 c of water to prevent excessive drying…set to defrost? or high (2-4 min.) ….after microwaving, let flowers sit in the dessicant (lid slightly cracked) overnight
….OR place flower in glass half-filled with silica gel, then gently cover with additional gel crystals. A cup of water
…… microwave on high power for 1 minute for most flowers, but some experimentation will be necessary… allow to cool before pouring gel out and removing flowers.
(those are just the microwave-assisted quick ways)

Pressing flowers requires placing the buds on top of a newspaper or magazine and placing a heavy book, such as a phone book, on top of the flower to dry. Press flowers to use as keepsakes with information from a sustainable gardener in this free video on flowers.

I want to make (potpourri: dried flower petals) to save some of that goodness for the rest of the year, and just because they are so delightful!
This is my first attempt to preserve flowers, I know I missed the cherry blossoms this year, but there are still plenty of very nice flowers in my neighborhood with very nice people, so I guess I'll go around and ask for premissons
Here are my questions to you:
What do you think are the best flowers for potpourri?
How do you prefer to your flowers dried? (hanged, pressed, sand, etc)
Thanks!
For a good potpourri you should aim for variety, including scents that particularly appeal to you.I do not think there is any thing like the best flower ,all scented flowers lend their contribution to the final effect. It would depend on where you live , what flowers are abundant in your area & within easy reach.Petals of roses, tulips, marigolds, nasturtiums all all good, try to add color by choosing a variety of colored flowers.Remember herbs ,spices & citrus peels are also included.

Just a nice summer’s day in Denmark. Gilbert the French Bulldog has a disgusting smelling dried fish-snack and I take you through a few flowers before Bra’mis the Spanish Cat greets you.
